I was feeling a bit down the other day when I happen across this great video on youtube. I defy anyone not to be cheered by this guy. You don't even have to speak the language to get it.

Whats in a phrase?
I have been with my husband Nick for 18 years, married for 12 of them. I suppose it was inevitable that I would take for granted how special he is to me. This was evident recently when I was explaning to someone who didn't know me or my husband why I hadn't done something. I mentioned that Nick had not felt it was necessary at the time to do it. This person then said the words "You should have married better." I was stunned, maybe I had mis-heard. It was whispered not shouted and I don't even know if they realised they said it. I quickly spouted some good things about my husband as if I had to justify my choice. I later felt silly and childish. If it had been Nick he would have pounced with a cutting remark or phrase that would have put them in their place. They would have realised that he lives his life never cowtowing to anyone or justifying his choices. As time went on I got more angry at myself mainly for not having a quick enough wit to respond. I then realised that this person had done me a favour because they made me appreciate Nick in my life and what he has and is doing for me. There isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't make me smile. A smile you may smirk, but having the ability to smile and laugh in your life is precious. We have been to hell and back and Nick has seen me near my end. Yet he has stood by me all the way. I love him more each day and thank my lucky stars the day he walked into my life. Shame on that person for judging without knowing and shame on me for not appreciating what I have and how special it is.

Barney the Dinosaur is torture?
Settling down to read my latest Empire magazine I was struck by an interesting snippet of info. Apparently US forces were using Barney the Dinosaur as an instrument of torture on insurgent prisoners in Iraq. I can't visualise what that could possibly entail but, it got me thinking of everyday things that could also be used. Top 3 would firstly start with so called singer Katie Melua. I seem to have a need to slit my throat when I hear the sound coming out of her mouth (???). Effective points 5 out of 5. My second pick would be any TV program hosted by Kat Deeley. Talk about overexposed she only has to do Playboy to complete full cycle. Effective points 4 out of 5. Thirdly, The 'Sheila's Wheels' advert played on a loop. (they are advertising for the public to join them in the car now) Effective points 3 out of 5.

Village life
I don't live in a village but with government legislation about to make car and air travel a luxury that only the rich will be able to afford I feel we are heading for an insular society. We already do most of our shopping online and with the advent of social communities online. Why would you want to set foot outside into a world where you may be robbed or worst still accosted by a bod with a clip board doing a survey?
I am not a conspiratist but the Nanny state is here, telling us what we can and can't eat and making us feel guilty if we so much as touch chocolate to our lips. Informing us that if we don't exercise, walk more steps and make our kids play out we will disappear in bubbles of fat. Give me a break who are they serving this rubbish to and who is buying it?
Where am I going with this? Well nowhere of course I'm not political but I also don't want to sleepwalk into a future where it takes a years wages to go and see my family abroad. Yes we have to be responsible for what type of planet we leave for our children but wouldn't it be nice if they could get to see some of the planet that we are saving.

Hide and Seek
A couple of years ago I heard a track at the end of a TV show. It haunted me for weeks and try as I might I couldn't find out what it was called or who sang it. Last week by chance it was used in another programme but this time it was referenced. This was how I came to find Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek.' I have been wearing my MP3 player dead ever since playing it. I found out through MP3.com that she did other tracks in colaboration with a group called Frou Frou.
In complete contrast I am also sold on The Lady Soverieign's album. Pumping bass and scintillating lyrics. What else could a girl want.

Buffy, Angel and other sad things.
I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Charmed first 6 seasons, Smallville, Supernatural, too numerous comic book heroes etc, etc, blah de blah. Notice a theme running through? Have I got a life? Yes I do actually. These programs do not run 24 hours a day but when they are on I do like to watch them much to my kids and husbands disgust.
I guess my love of all things mystical and science fiction started with my mum (God Bless her) (she passed a while ago). She was fascinated with science fiction and stuff that the government new and was not telling us. Oh yes it was called paranoia. But I digress, I like these programs because the characters have something I do not. A power, sometimes a pointless power like Phoebe's in Charmed (levitation) pleese. And more importantly sidekicks who support them through thick and thin. Having survived bullying as a kid, part of me always craved a secret super power or just a little power maybe to move a pen across a table would have been good. Now in adulthood I get a kick out of the fantasy played out on TV and Films.
